Downtown Hattiesburg has seen significant growth and restoration in recent years with many thanks to the Historic Downtown Association. The area is bustling with loads of shopping, dining, live entertainment and events. Many local entrepreneurs choose to call Downtown Hattiesburg home because of the diverse customer base that it draws. From exit 60 off of Interstate 59 you will travel down Veterans Memorial Drive which turns into Broadway Drive. Once you see the Centennial Monument and turn right you will find Downtown Hattiesburg. If you are in Midtown Hattiesburg you can find the area by traveling east on Hardy Street.

The Oaks District in Downtown Hattiesburg is distinguished by the large live oaks lining the streets. Hattiesburg’s founder William H. Hardy built his home in this area in 1895. Downtown Hattiesburg is also home to the Saenger Theatre, where events such as plays and shows are held during the week and on weekends. The African American History Museum is also located downtown, in the only remaining original African American USO Club.

Night life is thriving downtown and there are many spots to choose from such as B & E Wine Bar, The Thirsty Hippo, Brownstones, and 206 Front just to name a few. Many of these places are open for lunch and dinner as well. Bianchi’s Pizzeria is an excellent place to go for authentic Italian pizza, pasta and more. Hubfest is an annual downtown festival that occurs at the end of spring, where many vendors and live entertainment come together during the beautiful weather to create an amazing event.

 

Have an event to host? The Train Depot is an excellent spot which is newly renovated and can hold hundreds of guests.
